Djokovic can book today his R16 with Monfils, right? That has the makings of a very very good match, unless Monfils lays an egg. But his form coming-in and so far here in IW has looked very good. He seems happy and very motivated. Stay that way, Sliderman.
Federer v Wawrinka should go Federer’s way, but Stan is a tough read. He’ll look sluggish, ambling through matches he should probably routine. And then he wakes-up dressed in his Stanimal gear. Federer should reach R16, nonetheless.
Shapo v Cilic could be a very entertaining match. The Canadian might have a little too much zip for the big guy who hasn’t been very sharp in IW past.
The Russians Khachanov and Rublev might be good donnybrook, as well. Rublev has found his game once again after a year-long dip, which coincided with the rise of Karen. Let’s see how they square-off.
Medvedev v Krajinovic will be close. The Serb can hold his own and Daniil has dipped some from that earlier-in-the-season run he was on. This is a toss-up, unless there’s a match-up problem.
I’ll write later on today’s tennis, but in closing let me say what a shame that Felix could not close-out that match. That draw of his is wide-open. How much pressure should we put on these youngsters?
That was a bad loss, even for the teenager.
