You know the answer and if you don’t know you better act like you do. Your sport is on life support.

A study from 2011 surfaced that uncovered pretty corrupt U.S. Open draws through the years, highlighting how top seeds at this major were systematically given favorable draws. As if this is just a U.S. Open phenomenon. But we see that here in embarrassing fashion with the one-and-only.

Folks, that’s a garbage heap.

Luckily, what I’ve found is that tennis (life too) makes corrections and tends to safeguard against total injustice — other than our treatment of the poor and our species’ concentrated war on the sacred natural environment, both of which continue to endure a disgusting and evil prolonged human-born annihilation.

Other than those examples, sport and life often provide a bit of balance. Sometimes.

There is zero balance in this here major draw. Two years in a row?

Once he’s been escorted handsomely to his QF, the best case scenario is Thiem, Shapovalov, or Anderson. Thiem’s win today gives me hope of a sneaky little surge out of nowhere. But the 1R is the 1R. I also didn’t see the little ceremony between Ferrer and his master, but I suspect it was an emotional and gripping set and a half.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

GTFOH with this bullshit bandwagon of postured intimidation. GTFOH.

And listening to B Gilbert wet his pants at the slower, higher bounce of these hard courts is another boil on the USO ass. Must make men like Lendl, Wilander, Johnny Mac, Pete and Andre shake their heads.

Embarrassing. Keep up the good work, USTA.

Nice to see Tsitsipas, Wawrinka, Murray and Del Potro represent.

We’re keeping hope alive over here, but the sights and sounds are pretty grim.

  2. I watched a bit of the match — he looks good, but like you say, we’ll have to wait since we haven’t seen him play in awhile. To your point, given all of the tennis he usually plays, perhaps the break coming in will help if he can get through the first week, gain some of that match confidence with some energy in reserves.

    Needs to watch some of that predictability, like we’ve said. His CC strikes are great and that is a common BL strategy to run your opponent from side to side. But it looks pressed at times and too predictable.

    Bottomline: we need Thiem finding some form. He’s a legit threat.

    Yes, predictability. But if you hit so many aces, serve winners and rally winners, the importance of predictability decreases. I know, this strategy will not work so well again Nadal or Djokovic. Djokovic is outstanding in reading the game, but at the same time quite vulnerable to heavy shots, wherever they go. Well, so far we need to wait, what happens in next matches. Both Thiem and Bresnik told, this was his best first round match in any slam. So far he always started with lots of problems. He will have enough energy (example 4 matches for Lyon title and then directly 7 matches in FO). What he missed in the final, was not the gas in the tank. His confidence and consistence in this match is a good omen, but he will need to prove to behave both in matches against bigger opposition.
    The game concept was just perfect for him for hard courts. Big serve, attacking returns. Of course – the opposition was BASIC. Next comes BASIC+ 😉

    Yes, he did. Copil retired for some reason, but before completely lost first serve.
    Now Fucksovic trying the same against Djoker. Djoker almost dying from heat. But this is not the last match to play in hot conditions. Djoker has the game, but has he enough power?
