2nd set TB, Kyrgios serving for the set at 6-4. Double fault. He’s kept his wits about him for the most part, partly, as I suggested in an earlier post, because his competition here would probably call-him-out (embarrass him) if he acted his usual fool. But a bit of miss there on SP.

Del Potro’s serve at 5-6. In the ensuing rally, Kyrgios carelessly plays to Juan Martin’s FH throughout and Juan is even able to run-around and use his FH on Nick’s half-hearted attempts at the big man’s vulnerable BH. The Argentine makes it 6-6.

Then Nick plays a brilliant little rally, hitting his BH DEEP into the BH of Del Potro, who pushes it back to meet a subtle, easy squash-like cut FH to the empty deuce court. Brilliant. 7-6 Nick.

Nick follows with an ace. We’re at a set-a-piece. This should be good.

Edit: a little meltdown in the first game of the third set. Del Potro gets the early break as Nick has resorted to some tweener tennis, exhibition-type stuff that’s fun to watch but he gives his opponent two break points. He then hits the ball up into the stands after a first serve fault. Gets a warning. Del Potro says something to the chair. Here goes Nick. . .
